Call for Participants in Mindfulness in Law Schools Conference at SEALS

From the Mindfulness Affinity Group of the AALS Balance Section:

We are writing to solicit your interest in participating in a conference on mindfulness in the legal academy that will be wrapped into the SEALS Annual Meeting next year at the Boca Raton Hotel and Resort in Boca Raton, Fl. The final dates have not been determined yet, but will be two days within the date range of the conference, July 31-Aug. 6, 2017. The current plan calls for the first day to be a day of programming and the second day to be a day of retreat.

There are three set panels for which we invite your participation: an Introduction to Mindfulness, Teaching Mindfulness in Law Schools, and Mindfulness in Scholarship and Service. The attached document provides a more detailed description. If you are interested in being on one of these panels, please send an expression of interest to Program Chair Katerina Lewinbuk (Houston COL) summarizing briefly which panel you would want to be on and what you would want to talk about. Feel free to apply for more than one panel.

We also invite other proposals for panels that you would put together. If this is of interest, please send Katya a brief program description and who would be on the panel. You can assume the panels would be 75 minutes, and that the format is entirely up to you. Placeholder participants are OK at this point.

All expressions of interest and panel proposals are due on  Friday October 28 at 5 p.m.

We are thrilled with the opportunity to host this conference and are in the later stages of securing formal co-sponsorship by the AALS Section on Balance in Legal Education. As many of you surely know, SEALS is always a great family-friendly conference at a five-star facility on the Atlantic Ocean. Room rates are $159 and the registration is $160 for members and $185 for non-members, so it is affordable even in these austere times.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at SEALS next year.

Mindfulness in Law Schools Conference Chairs,

Richard Reuben (Missouri), Nancy Levit (UMKC), Scott Rogers (Miami), Leonard Riskin (Northwestern),  Katerina Lewinbuk (Houston COL), Rebecca Simon (Southwestern)

PS: Please feel free to pass this along to anyone who might be interested. If they are not already a member of the AALS Balance Section Mindfulness Affinity Group, they can sign up here at no cost, and send an email to AALS asking to be added to the Balance Section, which sponsors the MAG.
