SEALS Annual Conference

Section Summary – Call for Papers Luncheon

Call for Papers Presentation Monday July 22, 2024 SEALS hosts an annual call for papers competition that solicits entries from scholars with varying degrees of experience in the academy and a wide range of subject matter interests. The winner is recognized in the SEALS program and invited to present their work to a group of like-minded scholars at a Call for Papers luncheon. This year’s winner, Professor Jane Bambauer, is the Brechner Eminent Scholar at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. In the meantime, although we are still accepting submissions for the upcoming meeting, we have released a draft program. If you have suggestions for change, please let me know. We expect to open registration and the room block

SEALS 2020 Wrap-up

Dear SEALS deans, program committee members, and supporters, I am pleased to report that our 74th annual meeting has come to a successful conclusion. But what an unusual year! We were then forced to deal with enormous challenge of how to move everything online. Moreover, because the pandemic led to an economic downturn, law school budgets were

Updated 5/4/20 Dear Deans, Program Committee Members and SEALS Friends, I hope that everyone is staying safe during this pandemic, and that you are surviving as best you can. The Covid-19 situation presents a special problem for the upcoming SEALS meeting.  Even if we receive the “all clear” for a late July meeting, which is far from certain, there are lots of reasons why our normal attendees might find it difficult to actually attend our meeting. Some have compromised immune systems which would make it difficult or dangerous for them to attend.  Some law schools are prohibiting all travel, and some member schools are facing extremely difficult budgetary problems. SEALS is in the process of determining how best to move
